Stone cottages in an English village

Partners

Host a Smithy.

For councils, landowners, pubs, sports clubs, estates and business parks. A little spare ground becomes a gym and recovery space for your community.

What a site needs

Less than you’d think.

  • About 450 m² of flat ground, less than a tennis court and a half
  • A power supply and existing parking
  • Water and drainage for the recovery unit
  • Support from the landowner and the local council

What you get

A facility, at no cost.

  • A gym and recovery space for local people, five minutes from home
  • Ground rent or a revenue share, agreed site by site
  • Resident rates and free strength and balance sessions for older adults
  • No building work: the units sit on pads and can be lifted away

How it works

We do the work and carry the cost. You decide at every step.

  1. Talk

A short conversation about the site and what the community wants.

  2. Ask

We survey local people. We only go ahead if enough of them want it.

  3. Permission

We take pre-application advice, then apply for and pay for planning.

  4. Open

Units are built off-site in 4–6 weeks, then craned in and connected.

Common questions

These are the questions councils and neighbours ask most.

Will it be noisy?

No. There’s no music outside, quiet hours are set with you, and sessions are one to four people.

What about traffic and parking?

Bookings are capped, so there are only a few cars an hour at most, and we only use sites that already have parking.

How will it look?

Timber-clad and screened with planting, designed to suit rural and conservation settings. Each unit is about 6 × 2.4 m.

Is it safe with no staff?

Door codes only work for the booked slot. There’s CCTV, a panic button and sauna timers, members complete a health check, the site has specialist insurance, and a paid local keyholder looks after it.

What if it doesn’t work out?

The units sit on pads with no foundations. A crane lifts them away and we restore the ground.
